Keno goes on a HV
Woohooo!! I got to meet a fabulous woman last night when Ms. Kim and I went to do a home visit with Ms. S. I got to do some exploring and even tho the space was a little smaller, I found some good stuff on several of my rounds like a heating pad and some new toys! When I scored the heating pad, Ms. Kim saw me right away and told me to drop and leave it so I did; I was still curious but she was on me each time so I finally decided to give up cuz obviously she wasn't going to let me have it and she was watching me like a hawk! Dunno why! Ms. S was so nice as she gave me fresh water after my short ride and then she gave me a cookie from this thing that made really weird noises which I didn't care as long as I got the cookie! Yum!! We even got to visit their very own dog park which is cool but it was so darn hot, I didn't play or run around. I was ready to get back into the A/C!! Once we got back there, Ms. S threw a ball for me a couple of times but I much preferred just chewing it and trying to tear it apart. She then got another squeaky toy out and I proceeded to play with that until I broke it. She was saying something like I couldn't have anymore so while they were talking, I helped myself to another toy! They thought it very funny!! Apparently I play too rough with them so I would need to get some Kong toys that were a bit tougher for big chewers like me according to Ms. Kim. Sounds good to me!! I hope I get one with some peanut butter in it like they were talking...I dreamt about it all last night!! It was nice meeting you Ms. S. Hope I can come visit again!

Keno and Bear Hang Out
Keno had a rescue buddy come stay at the clinic to have surgery and got to hang out with him a bit. He met Bear at the Pearland Paws in the Park event and they were instant buddies. Keno wishes Bear well as he has a mass cell tumor and it was taken out.

Keno Goes to School
Keno got to go to school on April 17! Every year the Pearland 7th grade classes read Call of the Wild. As a treat for the kids, Husky Haven and Texas Alaskan Malamute Rescue are invited to come do a presentation to the classes. The presentation is Malamute and Husky information with history, activities, and comparison of both breeds. Keno along with Taska, Nikita, Harry, and Artica each attended one of the days they had scheduled this year. The dogs are always a huge hit with the kids :) Keno had a great time and did well with all the dogs too. See pictures below of Keno playing with one of the huskies.

Keno Attends Happy Tails Hike & BBQ!
Keno got to come out to our annual Happy Tails Hike & BBQ. He did well overall with all the dogs. He got to go on a short hike and hangout with some of the same buddies he got to meet out at the Paws in the Park in Pearland a few weeks ago.

Keno Makes His Big Debut!
Keno got to come out to a doggy event for a short while today at the Paws in the Park event at Independence Park located in Pearland. He did well with all the Mals at the booth and a few passerby doggies too. Afterwards Keno and 3 Mals all went to the dog park nearby. Keno did fairly well at the dog park for his very first time. Just a few corrections needed here and there. Keno also got a cat test today; NO CATS!! Overall this was a monumental day for Keno. We are all happy for him :)

Keno Update
I know it's been awhile on an update on Keno but he's doing well. Still working on the doggy attitude part as we feel it's more a defensive reaction rather than an aggression one. He's done well with a submissive dog and a laid back senior female who won't take crap from anyone so perhaps Keno knows not to mess with her :) Keno has a ton of pics available to view of him. So I Have an Attitude?
So...Keno seems to have socialization/ confidence issues with other dogs. This was the boy originally described as dog aggressive, and can be if not handled properly. So intros need to be slow and the other dog friendly.
On walks, he sees some walkers, a few families outside, and yard people who catch his friendly interest. He loves humans. We've been trying to work with him on dogs passing by. We have him sit for treats to distract him and to eventually disensitize him from having too much interest in the dogs?
We will continue to work with Keno to try to get him doggy socialized. Paws crossed.

Keno Gets a Night Out!
Keno is finally out of ISO and is curious about everything! He'll get into stuff when you're not looking either ;) Typical Mal. He did fairly well walking on the leash but was bratty when trying to put it on but settled down quick. Seems more interested in humans than other dogs but the few he saw and met, his hackles did rise and he growled at one dog so the jury still out on whether he will do well with other dogs or maybe opposite sex only? He was also pesky around the cat cages. Meow! See pictures of Keno's night out!

Keno's Out of ISO!
Keno is finally out of the Isolation quarters! Auntie M. decided to put him to work and he now is the appointment setter at the clinic. Just joking of course but he does seem interested in all the office stuff :) Although Keno is out of ISO, he is still being monitored in the regular kennel run for now.

Keno Update
From Auntie M:
Keno was better this weekend and has only coughed a couple times. He'll be staying at least 5-7 more days in ISO from when symptoms completely stop.
Keno is fascinated by the fish and tried to grab one today.. oops! Glass in way? He also keeps going into the cat room. Stole a stuffie off a jar on the counter when he thought no one was looking, climbed on the bench seats under the fish to get closer look. So generally behaved in your presence, but we suspect a sneaky streak? Ears and tail are up most of the time and he seems more comfortable and getting more adventurous.
Keno will pick up an occasional toy and just carry it around a little. Same with a ball, but he did run after one a few times. Overall he just doesnt seem very toy oriented? Definitely a pocket hound who will chew at pockets if he thinks there are treats. He is still smoochy and loves to be rubbed on endlessly, curling around you like a cat?
Although he is generally mindful of voice, Keno doesnt seem to know any real commands other than come or no. So I will dig out an old clicker and see how that goes. He does pretty well on a leash, but I suspect that may be less training and more people oriented even if he obviously knows about leashes.
Keno's a nice boy.

Vet Update
I weigh apprx. 74 pounds and am between 14 and 18 months old. I'm still a baby! I'm still having that nasty kennel cough but my lungs are clear, and I have a few worms! YUCK. No worries I'm on meds now for awhile and still stuck in isolation which I'm starting to get really ancy about! I got neutered too. Other than all that, I think I'm in good shape and everyone at the clinic likes me ;)

Rehab Houston
So turns out my stay in Austin wasn't too long after all. Ms. D came to see me and she brought a whole crew with her. I had pictures taken of me, lots of hugs, and petting. I got lots of compliments of what a good looking dog I am too :) Next thing you know I'm Houston bound. Ok I'll have to confess; looks like I'm going to rehab. Not because of my gambling which I don't do!...I told everyone how I was named Keno! Anyways I'm sick. I have kennel cough. Most likely from those hooligans I was in jail with. Get to rehab and looks like I'm going to be bunking with cats! The jury is still out if I like those critters or not...

Austin?
So here I am in Austin. Can you tell in my face I'm so excited? They took me in this house where I thought it was going to be my new digs and then took me right back outside the backdoor where they stuck me in this big pen. Geez, jail memories all over again. There's these dude dogs looking at me too. There's one named Seamus and he's got attitude. I didn't need to see his teeth. Malcolm the other dude wasn't too bad. There's these other 2 inside too named T-Bone and Roadhouse; oops I mean Roadside who claims she can pull over 900lbs. Yeah right. They're calling this like a halfway house? Halfway to my supposed new digs... See pics of me here.

Freedom
Well after Ms. D broke me out of jail, we loaded up in her car and headed to the big city of Dallas. Ms. D had her main squeeze with her too, Mr. Sandy so it was a fun ride. I couldn't stop giving everyone kisses for breaking me out. I was so excited. They don't realize how bad that place was and the food worse! I relaxed and got to sightsee along the way. We ended up at Mr. Sandy's house where they put me in his garage for the night. Now that I wasn't too happy about but they told me it was for my own good that I am officially in "Isolation" now for 10 days because I was in a shelter. Now they have "Isolation" in jail too you know! It's called Solitary confinement!! But the garage was different than jail and the food was much better. Ms. D said it was only for one night and that we will go on another road trip tomorrow to Austin where I could be in a nice dog pen for the rest of my isolation. Austin? Wait a minute...there's no Cowboy Cheerleaders there though. All bets are off! I want to stay in Dallas and meet the cheerleaders. Mr. Sandy then told me about the UT Cheerleaders. He said they're just as cute. I asked him if he wanted to bet on it?
Jackpot!
I've been sitting in jail for a week. Not sure why I'm here but they picked me up for being a stray. They named me Keno and I'm not sure why either. Maybe all these hooligans around here are gamblers or something. Next cell over to me is Poker and the dog across from me is Ace. Then Saturday came and I think I like gambling now because I hit the JACKPOT! A pretty lady from Dallas named Ms. D came and got me. Just like that, she showed up asking for me. She was a little worried about me at first because I was a bully to a couple of my cellmates. Hey what can I say, they lost some bets and wouldn't pay up? Ok I'm joking there a little. Anyways she loaded me up and told me we were going to Dallas. Woo Hoo! Maybe I can meet some of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders?
